April 18 DPAC Minutes and Important Information
by SD73 DPAC - Wednesday, 18 April 2018, 1:35 PM

Good afternoon everyone.

Attached please find the DPAC minutes from last night.

Couple points of particular importance:

1.  Don has resigned from the Chair position.  Sheri (Vice Chair) will chair the next meeting.  The AGM will be during our regular General Meeting time (7pm on May 15th).  We are once again in the pickle-position of being short a DPAC Chair.  DPAC cannot exist without a Chairperson!  We need you to step forward!  Any voting member at DPAC (that is, any DPAC rep from any PAC in SD73) is eligible for nomination.  Please, please consider putting your name forward.  Please note that employees of the school district may not run for Chair (although..they may stand for nomination for a member at large position).

2.  We had Tracy Smillie, director of Support Services, attend our meeting to help answer the questions DPAC posed to the SD related to the Superintendent's task force, and the alleged assault that lead to its creation.  See attached for her written response.

3.  We have tentatively booked the RCMP to attend our meeting on May 15th.  We have asked the Constable who delivers "The Edge" presentation in our Elementary Schools to come to DPAC and give the same presentation to parents so we know/understand what our children have been shown.  This stems from concerns brought forward to DPAC last year by a parent who was unaware that a graphic video showing IV drug use in Downtown Vancouver's Eastside was being shown in class to her elementary-school child.  The EDGE is a collaboration between the RCMP and the Kamloops Blazers.  If you are interested in seeing "The Edge" and watching the video your child may have watched/may be shown in class, please attend our May meeting.  As always, any parent is welcome to attend our DPAC meetings, regardless of whether they attend regular PAC meetings or not.

See you next month!
